HELENSBURGH’S fireworks display may have taken place a day later than planned, but the event still went off with a bang.

Wet and windy weather forced organisers to reschedule until Sunday evening, but visitors made sure it wasn’t a damp squib with a night of fun and spectacular celebrations.

Jonathan Stanton, fireworks convener for the Helensburgh and District Round Table, which organised the occasion, said: “It was definitely successful. People came out in numbers which was good to see and we thank everyone for their patience.

“We suspect there were about 2,000 spectators although it’s hard to judge the crowd that stretches out along Clyde Street.

“Everyone was in great spirits which was lovely and it’s always a nice community event.”

It is still unclear at this stage whether the event will happen next year with uncertainty surrounding the new waterfront development plans. However, Jonathan admitted the round table hopes to have something in place again.

He thanked premium sponsors Macleod Fulton Chartered Accountants, Helensburgh Toyota, Raeburn Hope Solicitors, Helensburgh Floorplan and Hart Insurance, as well as the support from those involved with the collection buckets and the fire service.
