THE reliability of Kilcreggan’s ferry service has risen to almost 100 per cent since a new contract for the service began in May, according to new figures.

A report to the operations committee of Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT), which oversees the passenger-only link with Gourock, shows a dramatic improvement in reliability since Clyde Marine Services’ new contract took effect.

The report, prepared for by senior SPT director Charles Hoskins, says: “For the first two periods of 2018-19, reliability was 81 per cent and then 73 per cent.

“Following the changeover of the contract to a new operator, reliability for the next four periods was 99-100 per cent.

“In the most recent period (ending September 29) there was one day of weather related disruption and reliability for the period was 97 per cent.”

Mr Hoskins’ report also says that overall passenger numbers since the change of operator are up 8.4 per cent on the same period in 2017.

However, passenger numbers were down in four of the seven four-week measuring periods since April compared to 2017, and up in three.
