LONE pipers from the Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band played throughout the Helensburgh and Lomond area and beyond at 6am on Remembrance Sunday as part of international commemorations marking 100 years since the end of the First World War.

Andrew Crockett, an Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders veteran, whose ancestor died in the First World War, played at the memorial in Cardross, while Roddy Garden did the same in Kilcreggan, as did Alasdair Huxtable in Drymen and retired band member Malky Gilmour in Balloch – 100 years to the minute since the signing of the Armistice.

All played 'Battle's O'er', a traditional Scottish air played after a battle, as part of the international 'Battle's Over' commemoration, which saw more than 1,000 pipers play the tune in communities across the UK and outside cathedrals all over the country.

In addition, the Helensburgh band as a whole led the Remembrance Sunday parades to the memorials in Helensburgh and Alexandria.
