DRIVERS using the A82 on Loch Lomondside face diversions of more than 50 miles next week as the trunk road closes for two nights.

White lining work and the installation of road studs will begin at 10pm on Monday, November 19, near the former Home on the Loch cafe north of Tarbet.

The work will be carried out between 10pm and 6am, and is due to be completed by 6am on Wednesday, November 21.

BEAR Scotland, which maintains the road on behalf of Transport Scotland, says that the restricted width of the road – where resurfacing work was carried out in early autumn – means there is no alternative to a complete closure.

All traffic will be diverted via the A83 to Inveraray, the A819 to Dalmally and the A85 to Tyndrum, and vice-versa, while the A82 is closed.

During the closure, workers will also carry out detailed inspections of the road on a section of the route south of Inverarnan.

Commenting on the improvements, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “A road closure is required for the safety of the workforce, however, a later start time of 10pm has been decided to reduce impact on commuting traffic.

“These road works are necessary to complete the improvements to the road following the surfacing works earlier this year, and our teams will do all they can to complete this last phase as quickly and safely as possible.

“We would encourage motorists to plan their journeys in advance, allowing extra time to complete their journeys and check the Traffic Scotland website before setting off.”
