Despite it being a pretty awful November Saturday, Helensburgh’s RNLI Lifeboat fundraising committee had a successful coffee morning in Helensburgh Parish Church Hall, raising more than £1,300.

In addition to the coffee morning, hardy street collectors braved the rain to bring in an additional £455 in donations on the same day.

It was a busy week for the town’s RNLI fund-raisers, who also held a tea party to say thank you to retiring members of their committee who can boast a remarkable 126 years of service between them.

Rosemary Lang served for 24 years, 15 of them as joint ‘souvenirs secretary’ alongside Annelies Campbell, who served for 21 years, while Fiona Aitken was a member of the committee for 28 years, five as secretary from 1992-97 and four as chair from 2007-11.

Also stepping down were Anne Morrison (28 years’ service), Angela Shannon (32 years, chair in 2002), Elizabeth Irwin (12 years) and Carol Rowe (nine years).

The RNLI’s next fund-raising event in Helensburgh will be at the Winter Festival, taking place this year on the weekend of December 1 and 2.
