Barrhead schoolkids were jumping for joy as they enjoyed a free taster session at a popular trampoline arena.

The children from Cross Arthurlie Primary were taken to new heights as part of Flip Out Glasgow’s free jumping for schools programme.

And they were not alone as they made the most of their first session at the arena, with Minister for Mental Health, Clare Haughey, also leaping in on the spring-filled fun.

Since launching in April 2017, Flip Out has provided almost 8,000 free hours of jumping for 110 primary schools across greater Glasgow.

Following a successful first year, the Rutherglen trampoline park is recognising the health benefits for children of all ages and is offering a further 10,000 hours to both primary and secondary schools across the area.

Acknowledging both the physical and mental health benefits of trampolining, Clare Haughey said: “Being physically active is one of the best things we can do for both our physical and mental health. People who are physically inactive face greater risks of poorer mental health, and our vision is of a Scotland where more people are more active, more often.

“The Flip Out free trampolining for schools initiative is a great example of an innovative and fun project that can help ensure everyone has the opportunity to gain the benefits of being active.”

Mrs MacDonald, headteacher at Cross Arthurlie Primary School, said: “Flip Out’s initiative with schools is a great idea and the perfect way to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health for children.

“It can be challenging to engage children in physical exercise and bouncing is the perfect activity as it’s so much fun.

“Our primary five pupils were really looking forward to their visit and they had a fantastic time. I’m sure they’ll be talking about this trip for weeks to come.”
