A BRUTE who attacked his ex-partner and left children petrified by smashing his way into a Barrhead house has been told to stay out of trouble.

Zeeshan Ahmad set about Zara Avi at a property in Tower Avenue in August this year.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard that 31-year-old Ahmad grabbed Ms Avi and shoved her on to a couch in an attack aggravated by abuse, as per Section 1 of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016.

He also assaulted Abdul Samed Arjumand on the same occasion by grabbing him and tearing his clothes.

And he placed Ms Avi and Mr Arjumand, as well as two children who can’t be named for legal reasons, in a state of fear or alarm by acting aggressively, forcing his way inside the property and shouting and swearing.

Ahmad, of Darnley, had pleaded guilty to the three charges against him at a previous court hearing after striking a deal with prosecutors to have some charges deleted.

Allegations that he had tried to slap his former partner, attempted to punch Mr Arjumand and repeatedly returned to the property in Tower Avenue were dropped by the Crown.

When Ahmad appeared in the dock this week to be sentenced, his defence solicitor Rhona Lynch told Sheriff Lindsey Kooner her client was due to go to Pakistan to look after a relative who was unwell.

As she deferred sentence on Ahmad for three months for him to be of good behaviour and to allow him to tend to his sick relative, Sheriff Kooner told him: “I am concerned about the conduct in this matter. If you are of good behaviour, then I might consider dealing with this matter in a way I might otherwise not have done.”

Sheriff Kooner also continued consideration of whether or not Ahmad should be placed on a Non-Harassment Order, which would ban him from having any contact with his former partner, until his next court hearing in connection with the case, which is due to take place in March next year.
