HELENSBURGH Parish Church hosted another successful Be Aware, Prepare... It’s Winter event.

The seventh year of the popular information day, held on Friday, November 30, was organised by Argyll and Bute Third Sector Interface (TSI) and brought together around 100 elderly people plus more than 25 local and national organisations.

The one-stop-shop for older people to access help and support featured a range of stalls including home fire safety visits through to how to access the local lunch club for a warm nutritious meal three times a week.

This year Helensburgh Community Council enlisted the help of other organisations to fill their stall and had information from organisations such as RoSPA and Argyll and Bute Council.

There was lots of lovely food at the event with Deli in the Square on hand with samples from their ready meal menu, while Greggs also kindly provided some tasty favourites for the day.

Organiser Alison Gildea said: “Everyone attending really seemed to enjoy the day and went away armed with lots of useful advice on how to stay happy and healthy over the winter months.

“Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the day run so smoothly.”

Tracey Fullerton, from the Solicitors for Older People Scotland stall, said it was a “warm, friendly and fun afternoon.”

She added: “It was brilliantly social, ridiculously informative, undoubtedly Christmassy and nobody left empty handed. There’s no doubt that magic happens when you bring a community together. Congratulations and thank you to Alison and the hard working team at Helensburgh TSI that made it happen.”

Grey Matters member Irene Stevenson said: “It was a fun day with lovely crafts made by local groups and of course tea and cake.”
