A COUNCILLOR who continues to serve Argyll and Bute aged 91 has spoken of his honour at receiving the British Empire Medal.

Donnie MacMillan, who represents Mid Argyll, has been a member of the local authority for nearly 35 years.

That service was rewarded at the turning of the year when he was named as in line to receive the honour.

Councillor MacMillan said: “I am delighted and honoured to receive this award. The fact that people went to the effort of nominating me is heart-warming, and I really appreciate it.

"To then receive the British Empire Medal leaves me, for once, almost speechless."

Council Provost Len Scoullar added: "This award is very well-deserved. Donnie brings local communities and local government together through his commitment to his constituents. He is out and about every day speaking to local people, listening to what matters to them, keen to help with any issues."
