HELENSBURGH'S lifeboat crew was called to the aid of two kayakers who capsized in a Clyde sea loch on Sunday afternoon.

The crew was put on standby by HM Coastguard at 2.25pm after MV Kingdom of Fife recovered the two kayakers from Loch Goil in force 6-7 winds.

The lifeboat launched 40 minutes later after the risk to both the casualties and the ship's crew was assessed, and transferred the two kayakers to waiting ambulances at Carrick Castle.

The callout was the lifeboat crew's third of the day on Sunday.

At 12.07 them were asked to launch in response to a report of a person in the water at the James Watt Dock in Greenock, but were stood down again after five minutes.

And then at 11.17am, HM Coastguard asked the lifeboat to attened James Watt Dock once again, this time over concern for a person on the water side of the security fence.

The crew, who were already on the water on a training exercise, were stood down 10 minutes later.
