OUR latest wander down Memory Lane in Helensburgh has picked out a story 10 years ago about a Helensburgh school pupil who submitted the winning entry in a competition to design a new logo for a local community group.

Here's how we reported on Kieran McGrath's competition win in the Advertiser on January 8, 2009...

AN 11-year-old boy’s simply designed logo will become a familiar sight throughout the year.

It has been chosen to be the logo on merchandise and posters promoting Kirkmichael Sports and Recreation Association’s (KSRA) activities.

The drawing, by Kieran McGrath, was picked as the winning entry in a competition to find a new symbol.

Kieran, a pupil of Colgrain Primary, won a £25 voucher for Morrison’s Sports in Helensburgh after beating off competition from other Primary 7 pupils at his school and those at St Joseph’s and John Logie Baird primaries.

Stewart Maule, who was appointed by the KSRA a few weeks ago to help regenerate the community and encourage local groups to use the area’s sporting facilities, was delighted with the logo entries.

He said: “The KSRA members were impressed with the overall standard of all of the logos submitted and would like to thank the Primary 7s from the three schools for all their hard work and creativity.

“Kieran’s winning entry will appear on flyers for future events and the new logo will start appearing on KSRA merchandise in the new year.”
