THE Met Office has updated its severe weather warnings for Helensburgh – and many parts of the UK – as temperatures look set to plunge across the country.

A yellow 'be aware' warning for ice is no longer in place for central and southern Scotland after updated forecasts predicted temperatures would not fall as low as originally expected.

But after a much colder day on Thursday, it's likely to feel even colder in Helensburgh on Thursday night and through much of Friday.

The Met Office is predicting low temperatures of zero degrees Centigrade in Helensburgh in the early hours of Friday, rising to only a degree or two above freezing for most of the day.

But the effects of an easterly breeze mean it's likely to feel several degrees below zero for much of the day.

Those cold temperatures are likely to persist into the weekend.
