HELENSBURGH and Lomond’s MSP has welcomed the ‘robust policing’ strategy of the area’s new inspector.

Jackie Baillie worked with Inspector Roddy MacNeill in his previous role in Dumbarton – and the MSP says she has no doubts the new man will be successful in his approach to dealing with youth disorder and antisocial behaviour.

Inspector MacNeill outlined his plans in an exclusive interview with the Helensburgh Advertiser shortly after taking up the role.

Ms Baillie said: “I know the approach being taken by Inspector MacNeill will be welcome.

“Local residents in Helensburgh and Lomond continue to experience instances of antisocial behaviour which has an effect on the whole community."

Senior Helensburgh councillor Ellen Morton, reacting to Inspector MacNeill's pledge, said this week that while she did not want to play down the effect of antisocial behaviour on victims, she hoped to also see a focus on tackling the problem of speeding motorists in the town.

Ms Baillie continued: “Having previously worked with Inspector MacNeill in Dumbarton I am confident that he is the right person to tackle these issues in Helensburgh.

“The work carried out by Police Scotland in Dumbarton was crucial in reducing the instances of antisocial behaviour in the area, and I am pleased that Inspector MacNeill will take the same determined approach to his work in Helensburgh.”
