PUPILS from St Joseph's Primary School learned about a true Scottish icon recently with a visit to the Mackintosh Club in Helensburgh.

The primary 5 children went on a special trip to the famous building designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh as part of an inter disciplinary learning (IDL) project looking at someone or something linked to the town.

The youngsters spent time sketching parts of the building into their art books during the talk and tour and afterwards described it as one of the best visits the school had ever had.

Class teacher Claire Thomson said: "It was part of the inter disciplinary learning (IDL) programme. Every class in the school looks at someone or something linked to Helensburgh and we looked at Charles Rennie Mackintosh's designs and artwork.

"Our first port of call would normally have been the Hill House, but obviously it is closed just now.

"The Mack Club was great and a lovely end to the IDL. The children absolutely loved it and our guides for the day were very welcoming and knowledgeable.

"They were allowed to touch everything like the big fireplaces, which is quite rare, and that really helped them enjoy the experience.

"Most of them said they had passed by without even realising what was there and now they are sharing what they learned on the day with their families."
