IT may be a while before the bird life of Helensburgh fully emerges from the depths of winter, but feathered friends of a rather more exotic variety will be on show – on screen at least – at an event in the town next week.

The occasion is the next meeting of the RSPB Helensburgh local group, which will feature an illustrated talk by group leader John Clark, entitled ‘Birding in the Seychelles’.

This takes place at the Guide Halls in John Street on Wednesday, February 20 at 7.30pm and promises to be a fascinating evening featuring a number of exotic species. All are welcome to attend.

Meanwhile, the group’s first field trip of 2019 takes place on Sunday, February 24 and is to the ever-popular RSPB Lochwinnoch Reserve.

As well as the birds that will be expected, the group will also have a chance to browse through the centre’s well-stocked shop, and to view the landscape from the comfort of the viewing area within the centre itself.

The group will set off from the car park in front of Helensburgh Swimming Pool at 9am. For more information about the field trip head along to next week’s meeting.
