IT may not quite be spring time yet, but the flowers were in bloom for guests of the Rhu and Shandon Parish Church Guild on Saturday at their latest afternoon tea.

On a day of rare good weather, the beautiful churchyard was brimming with violet and white crocuses to really sell the village to visitors.

The popular gathering in the church hall was attended by around 80 locals who were treated to some Saturday sunshine before sitting down for a catch-up over a cup of tea and delicious home baked sweet treats.

Jan Crawford, secretary of the Rhu and Shandon Guild, was thrilled that so many people turned out to enjoy the day and contribute to the church funds.

She said: “It went very well. We were a bit concerned because there was a few things going on in Helensburgh at the same time, but we were full to capacity and we had lots of positive comments afterwards.

“It was a great day and a great success. We are always looking for things to do to raise money and some events perform better than others, but in total we raised almost £550 which was fantastic and not bad at all for a day’s work.

“You can never tell before these events but we were quite lucky that it was so successful.”
