MAJOR resurfacing work is to be carried out on a section of the M8 motorway this weekend, potentially causing significant delays to drivers travelling to and from Helensburgh.

The slip road onto the M8 westbound at junction 29 - St James – will be closed from 8pm on Friday evening until 6am on Monday morning as resurfacing work takes place between the River Gryfe and Craigmure.

Drivers using the motorway to cross the Erskine Bridge into Helensburgh and Lomond are being warned to expect significant delays throughout and are being advised to seek alternative travel arrangements where possible. Local diversions will be in place.

Tony Chambers, Scotland TranServ’s project design lead on the programme, said: “Major resurfacing will be carried out at the weekend.

“Resurfacing the eastbound hard shoulder has ensured that two eastbound lanes remain open throughout, reducing the impact on drivers using this busy route.”
