THE library in Helensburgh was transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry last week with the help of a magical Harry Potter-themed evening of fun and spell-binding games.

The West King Street facility held the free event on Thursday, February 21, as Potter enthusiasts and fans of JK Rowling’s series of novels and films flocked to the library.

More than 30 children dressed up for the occasion as they donned their favourite house robes and looked out their magic wands to take part in the activities on offer.

Library supervisor Fiona Sharkey said: “It was absolutely fabulous and we’ve had lots of great feedback.

“The children had fun with all the games, like Quidditch pong, Harry Potter Pictionary, a quiz and matching quotes up to their characters.

“It was great and we could have sold out at least another twice over – as it was so popular.

“We must try to do it again because there were a lot of children who unfortunately missed out this time.

“But it’s definitely something we’ll look at organising again in the near future.”

All the children were allocated a “house” – each of them named Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin – before getting their NYPD-style mugshot photos taken after entering “Azkaban” prison.

The various quizzes and games were enjoyed by children and library stuff alike and our Advertiser photographer – who must have been tempted to join in as well – said he had never experienced a noisier library in his life.
