EACH year, there can only be one day, in March, which comes close to rivalling Hallowe’en in bringing out the best costumes and fancy dress from pupils in Helensburgh and the surrounding areas: World Book Day.

This year was no different and we’ve gathered together a great selection of the impressive outfits on display as avid readers got suited and booted to replicate their favourite characters from their favourite short stories.

No doubt with more than a little help from parents, the children in these photos certainly looked the part and here’s hoping this national celebration of books helps inspire the next generation to carry on reading.

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter novels were the theme of many outfits on the day, while Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and Roald Dahl’s The BFG also proved popular with youngsters.

Characters from Alice in Wonderland and Horrid Henry made an appearance as well and we bet the children wished they could turn up to school in their creative costumes every day. Thanks to everyone who sent in photos of their young ones, and here’s to World Book Day 2020.
