IF you're planning to go out and about in Helensburgh and Lomond this weekend, there's plenty to see and do.

This packed schedule of local events may leave you spoiled for choice but there is certainly no shortage of fun-filled activities for all the family.

FRIDAY

  • Jo Bo’s Big Swing Band - Commodore Hotel; Friday, March 22 from 7.30pm.

The gig is being held in support of Helensburgh Dorian Choir, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary year.
Tickets (£8) are available from First Class, 11 West Princes Street, from choir members, or at the door on the night.

SATURDAY

  • Community hub - Hill House, Helensburgh; Saturday, March 23 from 10am until 12 noon.

Find out more about the 'Box the Hill House' conservation project by getting up close and personal with the Mackintosh masterpiece. The free drop-in session gives members of the public the perfect opportunity to ask questions about the project. Entrance will be via Kennedy Drive.

  • Grand Bazaar - Helensburgh Parish Church; Saturday, March 23 from 10am until 2pm.

With something for all ages, and lots of activities for children, the event will feature more than 30 stalls and activities, including home baking, books, plants, art, tombola, and jewellery.
The event will raise funds for a variety of local charities and good causes, among them the Helensburgh and Lomond Foodbank, the RNLI, Welcome In, the Beacon Trust, Enable, Parklands School, Wellbeing Packs, and Grey Matters.
There will also be fresh wood-fired 10-inch pizzas from Scozzese Wood Fired Pizza available to buy – ideal for lunchtime!
Entrance is £2 (children free) and includes tea, coffee or juice.

  • Savoy craft and coffee morning - United Reformed Church Hall; Saturday, March 23 from 10am-2pm.

Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Group will be holding a Craft and Coffee morning. 
Stalls will include a selection of locally made crafts (glass painting, cards, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, and many more) as well as a second-hand book stall. 
Home made soup, bacon rolls and home baking will all be on sale. 
Entrance (£2) includes a cup of tea/coffee. 
All proceeds will go towards the group’s next stage show, Legally Blonde, which will be staged in November.

  • Tennis club open day - Craighelen Lawn Tennis and Squash Club; Saturday, March 23 from 10am.

Try your hand at the free sessions on offer in tennis, squash or racketball, let the children join in with fun sessions on court, then look around all the facilities which the club has to offer, and enjoy a cup of coffee with a slice of homemade cake.

  • Lochside coffee morning - Cove Burgh Hall; Saturday, March 23 from 10.30am to 12 noon.

The Lochside Churches Guild is holding a fund-raising coffee morning.
The entry fee of £3 includes tea, coffee, scones, pancakes etc.
There will be stalls selling cakes and other home baking, books, a bargain stall and tombola. Everyone welcome.

  • Spring concert - Victoria Halls, Saturday, March 23 at 11am.

The Lomond and Clyde Community Orchestra’s spring concert programme includes The Mastersingers Overture by Richard Wagner, Thunderbirds by Barry Gray, selections from Fiddler on the Roof by Jerry Bock, Johann Strauss’s Persian March and Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave.
Entry is free. There will also be home baking and a raffle. All welcome.

  • Car boot sale - Hermitage Academy; Saturday, March 23, from 11am until 2pm.

HERMITAGE Academy’s parent-teacher association is holding its annual car boot sale at the school this Saturday.
The indoor event features home baking, soups, teas and coffees and a wide range of stalls selling a huge variety of items. Proceeds will help support the range of extra-curricular activities offered to the school’s pupils.
Stall holders can set up from 10.15am onwards.

  • Comedy gig - Cove Burgh Hall; Saturday, March 23 from 7.15pm.

Ace Scottish stand-up comic ‘Elvis McGonagall’ provides the laughs at a night of comedy in Cove Burgh Hall on Saturday.
One of the funniest men on the comedy circuit, Elvis McGonagall describes himself as “a stand-up poet, armchair revolutionary, comedian, broadcaster, recumbent rocker and walking shortbread tin”.
Tickets (£10) available from the usual outlets. 
Doors open at 7.15pm for an 8pm start. There will be a cash bar and raffle.

  • Orchestra performance - Victoria Halls; Saturday, March 23 at 7.45pm.

HELENSBURGH Orchestral Society’s spring concert takes place this Saturday. 
The programme for the concert, under the baton of long-standing conductor Robert Baxter, includes performances of Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No 2 and the Benvenuto Cellini Overture by Berlioz. 
The programme is completed with Beethoven’s Symphony No 6 – ‘The Pastoral’. 
Tickets are priced £10/£6 students and are available now from orchestra members, Victoria Halls and The Scandinavian Shop. Primary school age children get in free when accompanied by an adult.

SUNDAY

  • Rhododendron talk - Gibson Hall, Garelochhead; Sunday, March 24 from 2-4pm.

EXPERTS from the Scottish Rhododendron Society will give a talk ahead of the Scottish Rhododendron Society’s annual show at the venue.
Willie Campbell and Katrina Clow will pass on expert tips on growing and showing rhododendrons at the talk on Sunday.
They will bring examples to demonstrate selecting for showing and growing for seed. There will also be plants for sale.
Tea, coffee and home baking will be available throughout the afternoon.
