IN our latest archive article, we take a look back to 2009 and Cardross Primary School's half-century anniversary.

PUPILS were given a day off from lessons to mark a very special occasion at their school.
The memorable day was held at Cardross Primary School which celebrated its 50th birthday - and the young pupils celebrated the occasion in style.
Wearing party hats and out of uniform the pupils buried a time capsule, enjoyed a huge party in the main hall complete with a birthday cake, and received the congratulations of Provost Billy Petrie on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council.
Originally the school was on the Main Road in Cardross before a new primary opened in Kirkton Road on March 6 1959 - where it has been situated ever since.
All of the school’s 191 pupils gathered outside to watch the burying of a time capsule in the grounds with the honour going to Hamish Mills, the oldest pupil, and the youngest Alex Bates with the help of head teacher Elspeth Davis.
They buried a range of items including a school t-shirt, jotters, pen and a whiteboard marker so that in another 50 years it can be dug up with the contents compared to what is being used in 2059.
Before the youngsters enjoyed a huge party with balloons and banners Provost Petrie congratulated them on their anniversary, calling it “a very special occasion”.
