A STATE of the art base for Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team was opened on Saturday.

Members and supporters celebrated at the £150,000 project funded by the Order of St John, the Christian order of chivalry which supports care homes and mountain rescue in Scotland, and leads the work of St John Ambulance in England and Wales.

The new base at Arrochar was officially opened by Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss, heir to Sir Ivar Colquhoun.

Team leader Mark Leyland and his colleagues were joined by representatives of the Dunbartonshire St John Association.

The land for the purpose-built headquarters was made over by Sir Ivar and Luss Estates.

The facility is expected to help the team provide an even higher quality of service and boost morale because it recognises the commitment of members.
