HELENSBURGH residents are being urged to ignore a fraudulent letter claiming that they have won hundreds of thousands of pounds in a national lottery competition.
The fake People’s Postcode Lottery letter was reported to police after doing the rounds in the town recently.
In it, the recipient is informed of their “winning draw” and told that they have been “approved to claim a total sum of £325,000”.
The addressee of the bogus document is advised to keep the details of their win confidential in order to “avoid double claiming and unwarranted abuse of this program by some unscrupulous elements”.
They are then told to contact a third party to facilitate payment of the alleged winnings.
Helensburgh police have confirmed it is a scam and have warned any recipients of the letter not to respond to it.
