TWO people were arrested at the weekend after allegedly attacking police officers during a disturbance at the Faslane peace camp.

Police attended the Shandon site just after 11pm on Saturday in response to complaints about loud music and noise.

One man allegedly ran at a marked police vehicle at the scene, smashing the windscreen using two rocks he had been carrying.

The man is alleged to have remained aggressive, making threats to harm officers and causing a disturbance, while a second man emerged from the camp and was also abusive towards the police.

Both allegedly resisted arrest by lashing out and one of the pair was allegedly found to be in possession of two lock knives.

Two men, a 23-year-old and a 43-year-old, were taken to Clydebank police station and held in custody to appear at Dumbarton sheriff court on Monday.

The charges for the alleged offences included two possessions of a knife, two disorder offences, police assault, resisting arrest and vandalism to a police vehicle, which remains off the road until repaired.

Meanwhile, three anti-nuclear campaigners from the Faslane peace camp walked free from court in Dumbarton last Thursday after a JP accepted a submission of ‘no case to answer’ over breach of the peace charges relating to a blockade at Faslane’s south gate in August 2017.
