ARGYLL and Bute’s only crematorium has reopened following five weeks of major refurbishment work.

Cardross Crematorium closed for five weeks in February for a major renovation programme, which has now completed, with grieving families able to use it once again.

Access has been improved both externally and inside the chapel area in the first major renovation work to be carried out at the facility since it was built in the 1960s.

The route from the car park to the chapel has been levelled to make wheelchair access easier, with no steps to navigate.

Access for funeral directors and their staff has been improved inside the chapel area. Flooring inside the chapel has also been restored, and improved toilet facilities installed.

A spokesperson for Argyll and Bute Council said: “We thank members of the public and funeral directors for their patience and understanding while this work was carried out.”
