CLEANERS of all ages headed to the Cardross shoreline on Saturday morning for the village’s latest beach litter pick.

Nearly 40 participants, including a contingent from the local Scout troop, collected around 50 bags of assorted rubbish and numerous larger items including containers, wheels, pipework, pallets and scrap metal.

Cardross community councillor Bob Murray said: “While it was encouraging that so many helpers collected so much rubbish it is disappointing that so much stuff is discarded in the first place. The number of tiny bits of plastic, including hundreds of cotton bud stems and drinking straws, was depressing.

“Craig Callaghan of Argyll and Bute Council supported us by providing the necessary bags, gloves and pickers.

“The event was organised by Cardross Community Council and we wish to convey our huge thanks to all who came along to join us on Saturday morning to help clean up the beach. In particular, we would like to thank the individuals who found money amongst the litter and handed it over to the organisers.”
