PLANS for a major new multi-storey car park at the Faslane naval base will go on show to the public at a drop-in event in Garelochhead this week.

The event is part of a ‘pre-application consultation’ by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), which is hoping to build a car park with room for almost 700 vehicles at Faslane to cater for the expansion of HM Naval Base Clyde.

The proposed ‘Quarry Multi Storey Car Park’, earmarked for a site on Maidstone Road at the base, includes four and a half parking decks above a ground level and, according to the DIO, “will help alleviate the increase in car parking required to support the delivery of the Clyde Infrastructure Programme” at the base.

Members of the public can view the plans, comment on them and ask questions at Centre 81 in Garelochhead on Tuesday, April 30 between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.

If you’re unable to attend the event in person but would like to find out more information, you can email consultants Mott MacDonald, the DIO’s agent, on SMO-CPRQMSCP@365site.mottmac.com.
