HELENSBURGH residents have been warned to watch out for bogus workmen after a report of fake tradesmen in the town this week.

Police Scotland issued an alert on Thursday through the Rural Watch network advising that "bogus workmen offering roofing/building and gardening work" had been reported in Helensburgh and the surrounding areas on Wednesday, May 1.

Constable Kelly Houston from Dumbarton police office said in the Rural Watch alert: "Please be extra cautious of traders who cold call offering this type of work. If you have any concerns contact trading standards or Police Scotland on 101."

April and May have long been regarded as especially risky months for doorstep calls by bogus traders as householders look to carry out work on their homes after winter.
