YOUNG singing stars who took part in the recent Matinee at the Musicals event in Helensburgh handed over cheques worth more than £5,500 to two cancer charities this week.

A grand total of £5,545 was raised from the successful shows, which were held at the Tower Digital Arts Theatre in February.

The host venue decided to waive their share of the money from the performances, meaning the entire pot was split between Myeloma UK and the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The youthful cast and volunteers helped put on an afternoon and evening of excellent entertainment, featuring songs from musicals such as Little Shop of Horrors, Wicked, The Greatest Showman, Oliver and Matilda.

Event organiser Donna Hicks, who was diagnosed with myeloma in 2014, previously told the Advertiser she was delighted that fund raising had surpassed the 2018 total from the inaugural Matinee at the Musicals.
