Today's trip into the Advertiser's archives sees us turn back time 10 years to our coverage of the 2009 Rhu and Shandon Gala.

Here's how we reported on the success of the event in the Advertiser on June 11, 2009...

THE weather may have been bad, but that didn’t stop everyone at the Rhu and Shandon Gala Day from having a brilliant time.

Although the rain and the wind threatened to ruin the day by toppling and snapping the marquees, a fun day was had by all.

Elaine Ferguson said: “It went well apart from the downpour. The marquees snapped during the night because of the wind and we were eaten alive by the midges, but everyone still had a brilliant time.”

“The day went really well, and the pipe bands went down a storm.

“Julie Smith from Funky Fitness had the kids up dancing and then did the kids’ sack and egg and spoon races. It went down really well too.”
