HELENSBURGH’S MP joined in a week of events to raise awareness of the work of unpaid carers in the area.

Brendan O’Hara dropped by the Helensburgh and Lomond Carers’ centre in Lomond Street to find out about the range of services the organisation provides to people who care for others.

The group, which is a Scottish charitable incorporated organisation (SCIO), organised a series of events to mark Carers Week from June 10-14, including a ‘community partners’ day, where other organisations came along to give advice on welfare rights, money management, support groups, aids and adaptations in the home and more, a ‘relaxation afternoon’ giving carers the chance to enjoy some holistic therapy and a meditation session, and even a trip for some carers to a ‘Dip and Dine’ event at the Loch Fyne Hotel in Inveraray, with a chance to relax in the pool and sauna and enjoy lunch and some much-needed ‘mindfulness’ time.

Mr O’Hara said: “I’m a huge fan of the staff and the work of the Helensburgh and Lomond Carers who, like so many, go that extra mile to help those who commit so much of their lives to helping their families and loved ones needing extra support.

“Last week I made sure I caught up with them to mark Carers Week and to reinforce just how much our community appreciates the support they give, each and every day.

“They provide a safety net we will probably never know we need until we find ourselves looking after our own loved ones.

“They are the often unsung heroes of our community.”
