POLICE have identified the woman who died following a road accident on the A82 in Dumbarton last week.

Theresa John, 67, from the Dumbarton area, was a passenger in a Land Rover which was being driven eastbound by a 74-year-old man at around 9.15am on Friday, July 19.

The car went out of control and crossed the central reservation near Dunbritton Road, striking a Volkswagen Passat which was travelling in the opposite direction.

Ms John was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the Land Rover was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he was treated for injuries which were not considered serious.

A 53-year-old man who was driving the Volkswagen Passat was treated at the scene and did not need to attend hospital.

The road was partially closed for several hours to allow emergency services to treat the casualties at the scene, and for police to carry out initial investigations into the accident.

Police issued an appeal for witnesses following the crash, in particular from passing motorists with dash-cam footage.

Officers now say that a full report on the crash will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
