THE magical white stag which has been spotted around the Portincaple and Garelochhead area for a number of years made his first recorded appearance of the season.

In the week that Helensburgh and Lomond was the focus of national attention because of its big cat sightings, this picture was sent to the Advertiser by a reader.

Graham Campbell of Carbost on Skye was driving north along the Garelochhead to Arrochar road when he spotted the rare animal and managed to capture it on camera.

He said: “Helensburgh has been in the news because of the big cat sighting - I hope it doesn’t get hold of the white deer we photographed at Finnart last Friday evening.”

More people have come forward this week to report sightings of a mysterious big cat in Helensburgh.
