PUPILS at Hermitage Academy have been congratulated for excelling in their exams, after their eagerly-awaited results were delivered last week.

Four sixth year pupils walked away with a staggering three As at Advanced Higher - Heather Allan, Emily Cassels, Christine McKenna and Gwen Reid.

Heather said she is planning to go to Strathclyde University to study Pharmacy, after taking the top grades for physics, chemistry and graphics, whilst Emily is going to study medicine at Glasgow after scooping high grades in music, biology and chemistry.

Christine is travelling to Tanzania to undertake voluntary work teaching primary school children before moving to St Andrew’s to study maths and geography.

Meanwhile Gwen is already taking part in a voluntary project this summer in Borneo after completing her sixth and final year at the school.

Hermitage offered pupils into Advanced Higher exams across 15 different subjects and very few pupils manage to achieve such high passes when sitting three exams of this nature.

Three S5 pupils were congratulated for achieving five straight As in their Higher exams, these were Laura Brown - who walked away with five band one results - Andrew Kennedy and Stuart Kerr.

They all plan on remaining at the school for sixth year with the aim of taking Advanced Highers.

And of the S4 pupils, five were ecstatic to find out that they had been awarded eight grade ones in either their Standard Grades or Intermediate Two exams, these pupils were Lucy Cassels, Laura Groves, Morton Cullen, Chelsea Gilbert and Kirsty McClymont.

The head teacher, Mr Geoff Urie, told the Advertiser: “Hermitage Academy is very proud of the many pupils who have done extremely well in the SQA examinations, a large number of our pupils have produced excellent results.

“Well done to all pupils who achieved their potential with their results and many thanks to the staff, and parents, for supporting the young people through these exams.”
