For our latest trip down Helensburgh's memory lane we're travelling back in time 10 years to a 'graffiti day' aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour in part of the town.

Here's how we reported on the Streetlinks event in Kirkmichael in the Advertiser on August 27, 2009...

THE generation gap was well and truly filled at an event in Helensurgh’s Kirkmichael estate recently.

The Kirkmichael Tenants and Residents Association (KTRA) had been experiencing problems with young people vandalising and drinking in the skate park.

So, along with Streetlinks, a Detached Youth Work project who work with young people in Kirkmichael and Churchill in partnership with Dunbritton Housing Association and Argyll Community Housing Association, they provided a free graffiti day with sports activities for young people from both areas.

Amanda Savage, senior Detached youth worker with Streetlinks said: “Although it was a very wet day around 50 young people attended and the graffiti they produced was fabulous.

“The artist on the day, Karen Shields, was very impressed with the work which was produced working with young people from the area.

“The relationship between the residents and young people is improving, and a future event is being organised with these young people to finish the skate park and take this partnership forward."

Streetlinks also have a Mobile Multi Use Games Arena (MUGA) which they will have in Kirkmichael at the KRSA and alternately in Churchill for the next couple of months.
