PUPILS at two Helensburgh and Lomond-based primary schools have kicked off the new term in style by earning further environmental awards.

Children at Cardross and Luss Primary celebrated achieving their fourth and eighth Eco-Schools Green Flags respectively, awarded by charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

In order to earn a Green Flag, schools must meet seven key elements of the Eco-Schools programme, which include forming an eco-committee and creating an action plan to tackle litter and promote sustainability in the community.

The Cardross and Luss awards are the latest in a long line of Green Flags which have been handed out across Argyll and Bute.

Indeed, the local authority leads the way in Scotland for the proportion of Green Flags awarded in regions where more than 50 schools have signed up, with 39 flags shared among 99 participating schools.

Argyll and Bute is behind only East Renfrewshire and Inverclyde nationally.
