West Dunbartonshire MP Martin Docherty-Hughes got a first-hand taste of policing with area officers recently.

The MP joined cops on patrol for an afternoon as part of Police Scotland’s “Give a Day to Policing” initiative.

He was given a tour of the CCTV control centre for the area and shown how it’s used to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. He then accompanied community police officers PC Chris Coyne and PC John Pryde on patrol throughout West Dunbartonshire.

Mr Docherty-Hughes said: “It was very useful to join local officers out on patrol and see first-hand the important work they do across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.

“Recorded crime is at historically low levels, but it’s clear that the nature of criminal activity is changing and our police are working hard to meet these new challenges.

“Technology is becoming increasingly important in policing and it was interesting to get a behind the scenes look at how CCTV and digital tech is being utilised to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

“I was impressed by the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by all the L Division officers I met with - both in the police control room and out on the beat.

“I’m grateful to PC Chris Coyne and PC John Pryde for giving me the opportunity to accompany them on patrol and sharing their insights and experience of keeping our communities safe.”
