HELENSBURGH and Lomond’s MSP has urged Post Office Ltd to do whatever it can to ensure that a post office service can continue in Tarbet and Arrochar.

The facility in Tarbet closed on June 21 following the resignation of the previous postmaster and the withdrawal of premises for Post Office use – and the facility in Arrochar is expected to close in October.

Interest is understood to have been expressed by two local people so far.

Ms Baillie said: “The communities of Tarbet and Arrochar value a local service and it is clear from the emails and phone calls received by my office that the closure of both of these sites would have an immeasurable impact.

“I hope that the Post Office will use every flexibility available to them to ensure that provision is continued.”

A Post Office spokesperson said: “While we always work hard to maintain Post Office services, we are not the owner of the premises and regrettably, we are unable to re-open the branch at present.

“We understand how important a Post Office can be to a community and we will continue to work hard to provide a solution which will enable us to maintain services in the area.

"We would encourage any retailer or small business owner interested in running a Post Office and incorporating it into their business to get in contact.”
