STAND Up To Cancer campaigners in Helensburgh had the time of their lives last weekend with a Grease and Dirty Dancing themed charity event.

The ladies night at the Commodore Hotel on Saturday, September 14, featured more than a few ravers who turned pink for the evening and danced the night away, helping to raise more than £2,500.

DJ Stewart Maule, venue manager Robert Patterson and Louise Cross of Life In Focus Portraits donated their time for free to help out, while 15 local restaurants and coffee shops offered up food for the all-important buffet and a number of local businesses donated raffle prizes.

A themed quiz and tribute band ensured the evening was a huge hit with those who attended and the area's Stand Up To Cancer appeal for this year has now been boosted to just over £9,000, following on from the successful family festival at Hermitage Academy last month.

Alison Sturgeon, assistant manager at the Helensburgh Cancer Research UK shop, said: "The night was a huge success.

"We raised a fantastic £2,595.40 and we had the time of our lives. There were some amazing costumes and dance moves.

"Without our friends, family and volunteers we couldn’t possibly manage to organise these fund-raising events and we are so grateful for the help.

"Many thanks to everyone who took part, and to Chloe Murphy and Holly Sturgeon, who are both 18, who have been volunteering at all our big events since we began four years ago. They are a tremendous support."

The grand finale for this year's appeal will be a 'spooktacular event' on Saturday, October 26, featuring the Ghostbusters of Glasgow.
