A MAN has been charged with careless driving following a two-vehicle crash near Helensburgh which left himself and another driver needing hospital treatment.

Police, fire service and ambulance crews attended the crash on the A817 Haul Road near the A82 around 3pm on Thursday, September 26 after an Iveco van allegedly collided with a Suzuki Vitara, causing the car to spin off into a field.

The male driver of the Suzuki was trapped inside his vehicle and once freed by emergency services he was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) in Paisley to be treated for fractures to his hip and elbow.

The driver of the van was also taken to the RAH where he was treated for an open fracture to his right ankle.

Witness statements and police enquiries at the scene allegedly identified the 29-year-old Polish driver of the van to have been at fault and he will be reported to the procurator fiscal.
