HELENSBURGH Music Society is celebrating four decades of bringing extraordinary artists to the town with the first of five landmark concerts.

The society has been attracting internationally acclaimed musicians and providing exposure for talented up and coming young stars for 40 years, and 2019 is no different.

A series of concerts will be presented to audiences at The Tower Digital Arts Centre, reflecting the wonderful diversity to be found in a variety of musical genres.

From lieder to jazz, baroque to the 21st century there should be something for everyone’s tastes and new discoveries along the way.

First up, on Saturday, October 19, is the Primrose Piano Quartet who will be presenting a programme of chamber music which includes Schumann’s much loved E flat Piano Quartet and the dramatic G minor Piano Quartet of Brahms.

The ensemble has enjoyed critical acclaim for their recordings of music by British composers and more recently, the complete Brahms Quartets.

It’s the first of five highly anticipated concerts running until March 2020, also featuring Concerto Caledonia, James Gilchrist and Anna Tilbrook, The Ugly Bug Ragtime Three and the Fitzroy String Quartet.

A spokesman for HMS said: “The society believes in making high quality musical experiences accessible for everyone with modest ticket prices and a most appealing concert venue at The Tower.

“To be able to hear some of our best known instrumentalists and vocalists without having to travel beyond Helensburgh town centre is a tremendous opportunity and that the area’s younger residents can do so for less than the cost of an ice cream cone is truly remarkable.”

The opening concert next Saturday starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £12, £5 for students and £1 for under-18s and can be purchased at the venue in advance, by phone on 01436 645006 or on the door from 6.45pm.
