MEMBERS of the Helensburgh 1000 Voices group travelled to Oban recently for a silver shindig celebrating older people's day.

Tuesday, October 1 was recognised as an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the extraordinary contributions and achievements of older people, with events held throughout the country to mark the occasion.

Together with Age Scotland, 1000 Voices arranged for 50 members from Helensburgh and Lomond to attend the Argyllshire Gathering Halls for a day of fun which included afternoon tea, music and networking.

After a light lunch, Helensburgh-based community choir Local Vocals entertained guests along with a local ceilidh band.

There were also representatives from various Argyll-wide organisations to provide information to attendees and a number of them went onto give short presentations to the audience in the main hall.

A new games club was also set up recently by 1000 Voices in Helensburgh, offering endless hours of fun for elderly members.
