A BBC celebrity auctioneer is to wield the gavel at a Peninsula fund-raiser.

BBC Antiques Roadtrip presenter Roo Irvine will help host the glitzy Bollywood themed night in Cove Burgh Hall on Saturday, November 9.

The event is being held by the Cove and Kilcreggan Bowling Club to raise funds to build a new clubhouse in Craigrownie Park.

Dubbed “Bowllywood Night”, two Helensburgh businesses are sponsoring the sold out bash which saw all 160 tickets snapped up in just four days.

The event kicks off with a pop-up premium cocktail bar featuring mixologists from Cattle & Creel Steakhouse & Seafood Bar in Helensburgh.

And guests will be treated to an Indian feast served up by the multi-award winning restaurant Annaya’s.

There will also be entertainment including music from Glasgow’s ‘Buff Club’ resident DJ Nick Peacock playing a mix of reggae, funk and Northern soul.

Organisers are also appealing to local businesses and supporters to donate prizes for Roo, of Kilcreggan, to auction.

Discovered four years ago when the BBC visited her shop Kilcreggan Antiques, Roo also appears on the BBC’s Celebrity Antiques Roadtrip, Bargain Hunt and Flipping Profits.

She recently filmed the celebrity version with boy band legends Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden and the show with the boys from Westlife and Boyzone can be seen on BBC 2 on Tuesday, October 19 at 7pm.

Roo said: “I’ve been busy filming all year across the country so it was great to get a break in my schedule to do this.

“I’m really delighted to be asked and really looking forward to the night and the theme. It’s going to be a blast.”

Bowling club president John Neil said they will also donate a share of funds raised on the night to their chosen charity this year - Motor Neurone Disease Scotland.

John said: “The bowling club was gifted to the community in 1907 by the Duke of Argyll and still has the original corrugated walls.

“Recently members gave their time to refurbish and redecorate but we were really just papering over the cracks.

“Our five-year plan is to raise £100,000 to build a new clubhouse which will provide a great facility for bowlers and the community who use the park.”

The club’s plans include public toilets for park users with an accessible toilet and baby change facilities.

They hope to create parking for a small number of cars and improved access to the park from nearby Fairfield Gardens.

John said the bowling club has welcomed at least six generations of bowlers, and a Tuesday night class is now proving popular with younger bowlers aged between eight and 15.

He added: “We are looking into accessing funding through all available channels. But this event will kick start everything.

“There is a lot of excitement about the night and we are really grateful to everyone for all their support and help organising it. It’s going to be an excellent night.”

Organisers are also appealing to local businesses and supporters to donate auction items. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Hamish MacLeod on 07946 559822.
