POLICE have confirmed that the body found on a stretch of the Helensburgh shoreline is that of missing Edinburgh student Rufus Brickell.

Mr Brickell was reported missing earlier this month from the Gorgie/Dalry area of Edinburgh and was known to have travelled to the West Dunbartonshire area.

He was last seen leaving a train at Kilpatrick station in the early hours of Sunday, October 6.

He was found in the Ardmore area of Helensburgh on Friday, October 25.

His death is being treated as non-suspicious and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Kieran Dougal at Oxgangs Police Station in Edinburgh said "The family of Rufus have shown considerable composure throughout this harrowing time for them and our thoughts are with them as they come to terms with their loss.

"We are continuing to support his family, friends and fellow students and work with them offering assistance when required."
