HELENSBURGH’S annual bonfire and fireworks display went off with a bang on Saturday night as hundreds of people gathered for the seafront spectacular.

After days and weeks of hard work and organisation behind the scenes, the Helensburgh and District Round Table members’ efforts paid off in style – and even the weather played ball, with no repeat of the 24-hour postponement which was forced upon the 2018 event.

The pier car park played host to another bumper crowd, fed and watered by a delicious selection of foods and hot drinks, while the Round Table’s donation buckets were well filled throughout the evening as members of the public added their contributions to the fund for next year’s event.

Ollie Pritchard from the Round Table said: “We would like to thank everyone who came along last Saturday and hopefully enjoyed the bonfire, fireworks and stalls.

“Once again, we were lucky with the weather, with a calm, mild day and a dry spell for the event.

“Thanks to all those good folk who kindly put money in the buckets; without your generous donations, the event simply wouldn’t take place.

“We would also like to thank all the local businesses and groups who have been a huge help in supporting this year’s event: Mather Hire for power and lighting; Ardardan Farm Shop, Garden Nursery and Tearoom for logistics; Ridings Sawmills and M&T Builders Merchants for firewood; William Thompsons & Sons and Night & Day Cleaning for transport; Babcock International for fencing; Townhead Farm for tinder; Helensburgh Beavers for the splendid guy; Helensburgh Rugby Club and Helensburgh Scouts for urns and gas; and Argyll and Bute Council for keeping the toilets open and clearing up after the event.

“We look forward to seeing you all again for the Helensburgh Round Table Santa Dash on Sunday, December 1, as part of Helensburgh Winter Festival. WinterFest.”

The Round Table has also launched an online fund-raiser to meet the cost of the 2020 event – to donate go to justgiving.com, search for ‘Jonathan Stanton’ (the name of the event’s convener) and click on the first search result.
