BUS passengers on the Rosneath peninsula will now be able to travel home from Helensburgh later on a Friday and Saturday evening after a trial period to extend the service was agreed.

The 316 bus service, which leaves Helensburgh Central station at 11pm, will now go all the way round the peninsula to Coulport, via Clynder, Rosneath, Cove and Kilcreggan, on those two evenings, arriving at approximately 11.47pm.

Previously the 10pm bus from Helensburgh was the last to run as far as Coulport, with the 11pm service only going as far as Garelochhead.

The idea was first floated at a meeting of Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council in August, with 87 per cent of 121 votes in a subsequent poll on the organisation’s Facebook page being in favour.

The operations committee of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT), which provides financial support for the route, agreed on Friday, November 8 to implement the later service for a trial period.
