EIGHT Helensburgh-based organisations have benefitted from an annual fund-raising drive by a group of current and former submariners.

In the sixth year of the money raising campaign by the Buddies in Boats, almost £4,000 has been donated to good causes around the Helensburgh and Lomond area.

Ex and serving submariners gathered in Helensburgh over the weekend with a celebratory bash at The Ashton pub in West Princes Street to split the cash between the charities and volunteer groups.

From a total of £3,650, Gareloch Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) received £800, Helensburgh RNLI received £400, Helensburgh Clan Colquhoun Pipe Band received £400, Helensburgh Sea Cadets received £350, Helensburgh and Lomond Carers received £300, Helensburgh and Lomond Autism received £300, Helensburgh Boys’ Brigade received £300, 4th Helensburgh Scout group received £200, 19th Argyll Scout group, Lochgilphead received £200 and Coming Home Centre, Govan received £400.

Since 2014, the submariners’ group has donated more than £20,000 to good causes with a reunion taking place each year in Helensburgh, as well as in Barrow in Furness and Bridlington in England.
