EMERGENCY services remain at the scene of a serious accident in Garelochhead this afternoon.

Police have said that the B872 Main Road between the village and Helensburgh will be shut for at least another few hours after a crash involving a lorry and a car.

The collision was first reported shortly before 12pm on Monday afternoon and drivers on the A814 and B833 continue to be affected by traffic congestion in the area.

Road users are reporting a build-up of vehicles between the Faslane naval base and Garelochhead and anyone travelling in that direction from Helensburgh is advised to use the Whistlefield roundabout route.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that the road will be shut for some time as a crash investigation team are still on site and further details will be clarified in due course.
