A GROUP of Helensburgh fitness fanatics are breaking a sweat in the name of charity this month.

Members of The Journey, based in SOS Fitness on West Clyde Street, have already completed the equivalent of the distance from Land's End to John O' Groats in just two weeks – a total of 874 miles – but they aren't stopping there.

Having started on the exercise bike on December 1, more than £1,100 has been donated already, smashing the original target.

And the team are determined to keep on pedalling to raise as much money as possible for the mental health and wellbeing hub, Jean's Bothy.

Jo Hall, business manager at The Journey, which opened in 2017, said: "We have a group of around 15 to 20 Journeymen who meet up on a Monday and a Thursday night to train in the gym and provide support to each other.

"The programme was designed to help men move forward with their struggles which often remain hidden from family and loved ones.

"We provide a safe and supportive space for those in the group.

"We also provide an outreach service to Jean’s Bothy and one of our coaches attends the bothy every Wednesday and Friday to provide fitness sessions to their members.

"As our relationship with Jean’s Bothy has developed we discovered they desperately needed IT equipment, so we decided to raise funds to help them purchase this much-needed equipment.

"The Journeymen are virtually cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, 874 miles, in the month of December - they intend to continue cycling, once the 874 miles have been ridden, and will track this on a world map to see where their journey takes them.

"Our original fund-raising target was £1,000 but we have smashed that in five days so we will hopefully double that figure.

"We are humbled by the generosity of our members and their family and friends who have sponsored our Journeymen."
