MORE than £7,000 has been raised in a matter of hours for the family of a Helensburgh toddler who died at the weekend.

Two-year-old Eliza Woods sadly lost her life on Saturday, December 14 after taking unwell at home in Rhu.

Her parents, Mike and Jodie Woods, who run the Baby Sensory West Dunbartonshire group, based in Helensburgh, said in a statement online that the probable cause of death was believed to be septicaemia brought on by meningitis.

Parents of other children who attended classes have been reassured that the risk of recurrence of the illness is rare.

Some children who had been in close contact with Eliza have been given antibiotics to stop potential bacteria spreading.

An online fund-raiser, set up by Emma Pratt, had raised more than £7,000 by Tuesday morning, with the Go Fund Me page inundated with messages of support for the family.
